Weekend review

It's been another busy weekend at the Cocherell house, but it was all fun (almost). Friday was spent doing our usual - in bed by 9pm, watching TV and trying to stay awake after another long work week. Saturday we were up and at 'em early; me to finish what is officially my final "hard labor" pre-baby project (no pun intended, ha!), which was cleaning out kitchen drawers & cupboards and dispersing what previous cleanout items were taking up space in the spare bedroom. This part of my weekend was the "fun (almost)" part. It would normally be something I would enjoy, but these days it takes me twice as long as usual and zaps me of energy so fast that I pass out as soon as I sit down.

Thanks to Mother Nature finally delivering a beautiful Saturday, Josh took Rocky to the dog park for the season-opening romp with his peeps. Unbeknownst to them (but suspected and mentioned by me), the park was an absolute mud hole. Apparently there were quite a few other dogs there, many of whom Rocky had a blast with, and as a result both he and Josh came home in dire need of baths. Not sure if you can tell much from this picture, but here they are just before a good towelling off on the deck.
After they got home, Josh went to work on one of the projects on his list that he's really been looking forward to: planting his garden. It has actually been in the works for weeks now, growing steadily in a container the size of a microscopic version of its future self. On Saturday the individual herbs and veggies were transplated to a variety of pots now distributed all over our home. Step inside and you might think you're in a greenhouse. I am really looking forward to seeing what becomes of it!

Today was where things got fun for me - I had my first baby shower! It was hosted by two great friends/co-workers of mine, Jaclyn and Kayla, and held at Jaclyn's home. They had an awesome spread of quiches, fruit, dip and desserts, and the most amazing punch I think I've ever had. Thanks to the number of weddings Josh and I have been to I have found myself to be a regular "punch connoisseur", and I can safely say this one topped the list. We visited, ate and played a few games, all of which seemed to be fun for all. The gathering was a small group of other co-workers of ours, as well as my mom, and was the perfect size for my first go-round at receiving gifts that ultimately are not meant for Josh and me. JJ received so many wonderful things and I can't wait to get them all out of the boxes and bags and put away.
I should also mention that Dad came along for the ride, so he and Josh spent their baby shower time at the North Liberty sports bar, eating wings (Josh) and drinking a few beers. Good times had by all!

Here are a few shower pics in the following order: Kayla's diaper cake, a section of the food spread, and the shower gang sans Mom/Kathy who was the photographer.

  1. Do all of these people work at UIF? I don't recognize 3 of them. But then again, I hardly ever see you so I wouldn't be surprised!

  2. Yep, all UIF employees! All 3rd floor residents, cooped up and alone up here. No wonder you don't recognize anybody...
