Holy heartburn!

I had my first, and hopefully last, tried and true heartburn butt kicking about 1am this morning. Let me first admit that almost everything I consumed yesterday put me on that path. So I should have known as I was eating Wig & Pen Flying Tomato pepperoni and green olive pizza for dinner, that after the other heartburn-inducing food I'd ingested over the course of the day, I was in for it. I fell asleep around 10pm like normal, but the shock and pain of my esophagus screaming at me a few hours later jolted me right out my slumber. I tried to toss and turn for about half an hour - typical comatose me, I thought a new sleeping position would make it go away - until finally I knew I had to make a move. I popped a Tums (currently always within reach of my pillow) and chugged a little water, to no avail. I waited. I popped another Tums. I waited. I tried two pillows since all of my pregnancy books and emails tell you to raise your head at night to avoid heartburn. No luck. Finally after all four of us were awake (JJ and Rocky included) I decided on the one last "No Zantac in the house" option - sleeping sitting up. That's right, I propped myself up as if I were laying in bed watching tv, and it worked. I slept like that for almost two full hours until I'm sure the pain was on its way from my chest to my neck. Finally about 3:45 I stretched back out into a normal person's sleeping position, and after one or two very minor acid attacks all seemed to be well. Sigh. Note to self: Healthy food only from now on...I'll leave the sleepless nights for after JJ's here.

  1. Go get the Zantac. Take one in the a.m. and one in the p.m. At first I tried to avoid taking it and then I gave in and everyone in the hosuehold was happier.
